Set-up and Take-down
No sign up needed, just show up! The Sundar Shadi Holiday Display would not be possible without community volunteers who help load, transport, and place the many display figures. Check the weather and dress accordingly. Work gloves are helpful, no prior experience needed.
Set Up Day 2025: December 13th at 9 am
Take Down Day 2025: December 27th at 9 am
Location: Moeser Lane display site

Volunteer Shepherds
Shepherd volunteers help greet visitors and answer general questions about the display. Shifts normally run from 5 – 7 pm and 7 – 9 pm nightly. Shifts Christmas Eve and Christmas Day run 5 – 7 pm and 7 – 10 pm.
In between Display seasons, volunteers help restore and maintain the display figures, some of which are over 70 years old. We are always looking for help in a variety of ways to keep the figures painted and repaired.
If you are interested in helping out with painting or plaster work, email houserini@sbcglobal.net for more information!

I lived about a block away from Sundar Shadi’s home back in 1969. My husband and I fell in love with his wonderful Christmas display … So glad the foundation is still putting up the Christmas Display! It’s just wonderful! I helped set it up about ten years ago with a dedicated group of volunteers, and it was fun working together to bring some Christmas joy to the East Bay!

This absolutely brings tears to my eyes. I visited this display every year as a kid. I love in Oregon now & wasn’t aware that you good hearted volunteers put it up year after year until just recently. This is for sure a childhood memory unlocked. Thank you for that. . Merry Christmas everyone.

I’m glad to see that there is a group of people carrying on Sundar Shadi’s Holiday Display Tradition. We used to drive by every year after Christmas Eve Dinner at my Mothers house in Kensington. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the display in years since I’ve moved out of the area. Also nice to see an old friend, Scott Houser, as a Volunteer Docent. Hey Scott!

Thank you for all you do to keep this lovely tradition and tribute going. 50 years ago my parents took me as a child to see this. It was awe inspiring. Until I stumbled onto the FB page, I had no idea it was still in play. What a legacy! And so glad I rediscovered it!
